Artist statement

Lately I’ve been creating mixed media collage art. I use watercolor pencils to create a colorful background, then I blend the colors with water. I cut out pictures from magazines, then I put like pictures together. I use a glue stick to add pictures to my background, then I use paint markers to add words and tell a story about the images. I like to find images that make me think of good memories and I honor those memories with bright colors. Memories of family members – specifically of my parents, my dad’s cars, elephants, flowers, and dogs and cats. My parents had lots of different breeds of dogs, so I like to reference dogs in my art that remind me of good times with my parents. I use elephants in my art because my dad thought they were cute and always joked that he wanted to have one as a pet, but me and my mom said, “No way!” I hope people connect with my artwork and it makes them think of good memories too.
